“I was a first-time homebuyer myself when I arrived in Canada in 1999. And I know how it feels when you fall for the bank’s best mortgage rate, only to find out later, that this offer has a “not-so-silver” lining and becomes way too expensive down the road.
Bank officers will NEVER tell you that there are other better mortgage products out there, which might better suit your needs.
When I was buying my very first home, the real estate agent, with whom I was working, sent me to the bank where I was offered a “Better than Prime” Mortgage. What did I know about Prime Rate mortgage? Not much.
But I knew that Prime means something great, like Prime Ribs, right? So, I fell for it.
It was only later that I discovered much better mortgage options offered by other lenders who I didn’t even know existed.
That is when I dedicated myself to researching the mortgage industry to identify the best programs and find out who offers them.
